About: Comme des Garçons

by Rey Anvio

Comme des Garçons (a.k.a CDG) is a Japanese fashion label founded by Rei Kawakubo. The name itself is a French term that translates to “like boys”. It was inspired by Françoise Hardy’s 1962 track “Tous les garçons et les filles” (All the boys and the girls). The brand was started in 1969 then was fully established as a company in 1971.

The prolific designer still oversees CDG’s productions till this day. Since its inception, the brand proved its reputation among fashionable societies and became a household name in 1970. It is still dominating the fashion game and appealed to people from various backgrounds, paving the way for its many sub-labels such as CDG Play, CDG Homme, Ganryu, and the iconic fashion store, Dover Street Market.

This month, SONDERLAB is proud to add Comme des Garçons to its list of iconic international brands. Head over to Sonderlab.co to check out the pieces!
